About Robert

Personal:

Rob Paulin is a 4th Generation New Zealander.

Born: Morrinsville now resident in Wellington for 48 Years.

Married: Karen Paulin in 1985

Family: Laura lives in Sydney. Sarah lives in Auckland.

Interests: Sailing, motor sport, boating and cycling.

Rob began club racing "P" class yachts at Paremata Boating Club (with brother Matt, and parents as support crew). He sailed Junior Cherubs, Lasers, 470 and later keelers. He maintains sailing, fishing and diving interests. When family arrived, gaining wider acceptance of boating required a launch. The first launch wouldn't accommodate the growing family, so construction of a new launch commenced, in Mana.  Following several budget revisions and six years, construction of Southern Cross was complete.

It enabled family holidays to Abel Tasman, Nelson, D'Urville Island and adventure trips, including a circumnavigation of the South Island and Stewart Island. Family trips are less frequent now the girls have left home but Rob and Karen still get away a couple of times a year.

Over the last four years, spurred by declining fitness levels, Rob pursued an interest in cycling. This has reversed the fitness decline and the middle age spread. Cycling opened up new social groups, opportunity to travel, and compete in age-group events. He values longer training rides for contemplating business issues. He has ridden the Round Taupo Cycle race for the past four years. Faster now than when he was 35!
